Melghat Tiger Reserve of Maharashtra

Melghat Wildlife Sanctuary was one of the first nine tiger reserve, declared under the Project Tiger in India. The tiger reserve and wildlife sanctuary is located in the Amaravati district of Maharashtra.

Melghat is well connected through all the three types of travel, Semadoh is the base village of Melghat Tiger Reserve.

By Air

Nagpur is the nearest airport for Melghat Tiger Reserve, which is about 255 kms by road from Semadoh.

By Road

Chikhaldara is a popular hill station, located 25km from Melghat Tiger Reserve.

City buses are also available from the Badnera Railway station to many area of Amravati city.

Summer season is best time, when chances of wild animal sightings are high in Melghat Tiger Reserve.

December to June is the best time to visit Melghat Tiger Reserve.

Tiger Reserve Safari Timings

Jeep safaris in Melghat Tiger Reserve are conducted only from the month of December till the beginning of the monsoon.
One can also travel by mini buses by your own private vehicle.

Keytone Species of Melghat

Melghat Tiger Reserve is home to 41 bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, dholes dogs and many more wild animals as well as critically endangered bird species such as Indian vulture, forest owlet and green avadavat.

The main fauna found in Melghat Tiger Reserve also include Indian jackal,flying squirrel,ratel, python and chausingha.
