Tehri Dam

Tehri Dam

The Tehri Dam, multi-purpose rock and earth-fill embankment dam on the Bhagirathi River, the main tributary of the Ganges. It is the highest dam in India and one of the tallest in the world with total height of 260.5 m (855 ft).

Bhakra Dam

The Bhakra Dam is a concrete gravity dam build across the Sutlej River, Its India’s second tallest at 225.55 m (740 ft) and the reservoir known as the Gobind Sagar, the second largest reservoir in India. Nangal dam is another dam downstream of Bhakra dam and both the dams together are called Bhakra-Nangal dam.

Idukki Dam

The Concrete arch dam stands between the two big mountains of Kurathimala and Kuravanmala in Idukki district of Kerala, built on the Periyar River. At 168 m (551 ft), it is one of the highest arch dams in Asia and third tallest arch dam, along with other two dams have created biggest artificial lake in the state.

Koldam Dam

The Koldam Dam Hydropower Project or also known as KolDam is under construction across the Sutlej River in  Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh. Koldam Dam is embankment dam  and will be the 4th tallest dam in India with 167 m (548 ft) total height.

Sardar Sarovar Dam

The largest dam and part of the Narmada Valley Project, Sardar Sarovar Dam is a Concrete gravity dam on the Narmada River with height of 163 m (535 ft) in Gujarat.
SSD or Sardar Sarovar Dam is the largest structure to be built on river Narmada and one of the five biggest dam of India.

Ranjit Sagar Dam

The Ranjit Sagar Dam also known as the Thein Dam is build over the Ravi River in Punjab and the project is the largest hydroelectric dam in the state. Thein dam is one of the highest earth-fill dams in India and has the largest diameter penstock pipes in the country, with height of 160 m (520 ft).

The Srisailam Dam is constructed across the Krishna River at Srisailam in a deep gorge in the Nallamala Hills of Andhra Pradesh. Srisailam Dam is a Concrete gravity dam with height of 145 m (476 ft) and surrounded by the Nallamala Hills.

The Chamera Dam is located near the town of Dalhousie, in the Chamba of Himachal Pradesh and the reservoir is known as Chamera Lake.
